We have the privilege of selling at ABSOLUTE AUCTION the home and the 35 acre farm of the Evonne & Clarence James (Jim) Robbins.
Spectacular panoramic view of the Chilhowee Mountain range!! Log Cabin from the Pioneer days of Maryville! This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase your dream home. Located only 6 miles outside the city of Maryville, but it is like being in Cades Cove in the smokies! Virgin hardwoods are located on the property, as well as rolling pasture fenced for cattle! The home is serviced by well water, and has a creek running on border of the property. Mr. Robbins used to keep cattle on this beautiful property. You will be hard-pressed to find a property like this one with all it has to offer...
The real estate property will be sold in one lot containing the home, acreage/farm, log cabin, apartment over detached garage, and an additional detached garage. Personal property will be sold separately.
The Home: 1,976 square feet (including sunroom) 3 bedroom 2 bath ranch style home with central heating and air, large sunroom to take in the panoramic mountain views, 650 square feet of finished basement and approx. 1008 square feet of unfinished basement with walk-out door. The Log Cabin: Dr. Sam Crawford lived on the historic Crawford farm on Duncan Road in the City of Maryville, Tennessee. The original home place was still standing and had been vacant for many years. Dr. Crawford told Jim Robbins and his brother Bill that they could have the wood in the house if they would tear it down. (There had been people in and out of the house, and Dr. Crawford was afraid someone was going to get hurt because the house was in such bad shape.) In the late 1970's Jim, Bill, and their wives, Vonnie and Rose, began to tear the house down. When they started tearing down the kitchen, they found a log cabin that the house had been built around! They decided to number and label each piece as they took it apart so they could re-assemble it on the Robbins farm. This process took a long time. In the early 1980's they began painstakingly reassembling the log cabin and reconstructed it on the property. It now looks much the way it would have in the Pioneer days of Maryville and East Tennessee (Late 1700's-early 1800's). It took several years to complete the cabin. Jim Robbins oversaw doing all the stone work. Many different people are credited for helping during the years the log cabin was being reconstructed. The family has many photos and articles documenting the original tear down house, discovery of the log cabin within the house, disassembly and removal from original site, as well as reconstruction photos.
